JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL CONCERT BAND AND DIRECTOR MR. ERIC SNYDER
MUSIC DEPARTMENT FINDS SUCCESS
AT DISTRICT MUSIC CONTEST
On Friday, April 23, the Mead High School Music Department participated in the annual
District Music Contest at Auburn High School in Auburn. This is sponsored by the
NSAA and is the most important contest of the year for Nebraska high schools.
Friday was the competition for all large groups in our district. Mead entered the Concert
Band, Jazz Band, Concert Choir, and Swing Choir. Each group received a division II,
which is considered an Excellent rating. The students and the director were disappointed
that there wasn't a Superior rating to bring home, but we did feel good about our
performances.
After looking over all the ratings for the large groups, it became evident that the judges
were extremely tough. Out of all the Class "D" schools participating in this contest, only
4 Superior ratings were given. This included the bands, jazz bands, choirs, swings choirs
madrigals and glees. Some schools received lower ratings than ours. So, our Excellent
ratings started to look better. The judges were tough, but consistent.
On Saturday we had to go back for small groups and solos. After this day was over we
started to forget about Friday. Everyone performed very well! Mead had 11 entries and
came home with 7 Superiors and 4 Excellents! This was more like it!
Here is a break-down of all the entries and their ratings. Overall we received 7 Superiors
and 8 Excellents. Band - II, Choir - II, Jazz Band - II, Swing Choir - II, Boys Quartet - I,
