OOKING BACK
About fifteen students attended playschool for two
weeks in the spring of 1952 in preparation for first grade.
This was the beginning of twelve years of work. In 1952,
under the guidance of their teacher, Miss Margaret Rood,
these students began the long climb of continuing edu-
cation: Gay Gustafson, Ruth Svoboda, Garwood Vavak,
Diana Stoakes, and Bill Nygren.
Jack Flagle joined the class in the second grade. Bill
Nygren withdrew from the class the same year. Gunther
Lipsys joined the class in the third grade, and Judy
House came in the fifth grade. Deanne Carlson trans-
ferred from country school in the seventh grade and Wayne
Petersen came in the eighth grade.
As the class of " 64" entered Mead High School in the
fall of" 60" , we looked through the window and saw
stretched before us four long years of hard work before
our ultimate goal, graduation, could be obtained.
Merlin Fick, Art Lamprecht, Terry Radenslaben,
Joyce Carlson, Ronnie Sanders, Melvin Vance, and Bill
Nygren joined the class. Betty Peterson also joined the
class later in our freshman year. To guide our classes
efforts throughout our first year, Gay Gustafson, Deanne
