The Raiders got off to a good season by defeating their first three opponents. The team was relatively inexperi-
enced but were anchored by the senior leadership of Jerry Charles, Bill Flagle, Jeff Konecky and Rob Pelster.
The Raiders hit a snag in the Brownell-Talbot Raiders in their fourth game. It was a close game and not fully
decided until the last seconds of the fourth quarter. The outcome was a big disappointment to the team. They
bounced back the following week by slaughtering Waterloo 52-6. The Raiders also won the ever-important
Homecoming game against Malcolm. The East Butler Tigers were a formidable opponent in the team's next
game. The score of 32-8 in favor of the Tigers didn't reflect the true closeness of the game. East Butler played
hard-nosed football and deserved to win. Mead ended their season on a good note as they defeated their arch-
rival Cedar Bluffs by a score of 27-14. The Raiders had a successfull but not entirely fulfilling season as they
ended the season with a 6-2 record. Several Raiders received post-season honors for their play. Jerry Charles
was named D-1 All-state offensive line World Herald, Lincoln Journal Star defensive player of the year and
Wahoo All-Area. Bill Flagle was named to the Wahoo All-Area team. Rob Pelster made All-State honorable
mention in both the Lincoln and Omaha newspapers and was Wahoo All-Area honorable mention. Jeff Konecky
was Academic All-State and Wahoo All-Area honorable mention. Jason Maly earned an honorable mention on
       the Wahoo All-Area team
