This Raider football season started off shaky, with in-
juries. Injuries plagued the Raiders this year in the
off season. Cortney Couch broke his kicking foot while
attending a basketball camp in the summer. Matt
Hannan, also plagued by injury, had shoulder sur- EXCITING YEAR OF FOOTBALL
gery.
The soap scrimmage proved to add to the problem
of injuries. Cortney and Matt didn't play in the scrim-
mage to let themselves heal before games started. But
Matt Mongan tore his knee up in the scrimmage and
had to have reconstructive knee surgery. He was out
for the rest of the year.
The Raiders started out the season with a second
place rating in the sportswriters' polls. This meant
that every game would be tough, especially playing
Howells who handed the Raiders a loss to begin the
season. The Raiders bounced back though, winning
the next 5 straight games including homecoming, until
running into the defending state champs East Butler.
That game was very exciting, and at the end of the
game it looked like a basketball score. Mead came
back to win the next two games which made Mead
the E.C.N.C. champions.
Overall the Raiders had a successful season and
showed signs of another good season next year. Stuart
Nadgwick led the offense with 972 yds. Kent Lange-
meier was close behind with 800 yds. Kent also led
the defense with 45 unassisted tackles. Kent watches Joel fly. Who's Who?
