Athletic Banquet and
Honors Night
Athletic and Honors ights are events where students take pride in being recognized in
areas in which they excel. Certain prestigious awards are announced at these events. During
the Athletic Banquet these awards are the Booster Club's Outstanding Female Athlete, the
Larry Becker Athletic Award and the Wendy's High School Heisman Nominees. During the
Honors ight pre entation , awards students look up to are the Board of Governors Com-
munity Service Award and the Presidential Awards in Educational Excellence and Achieve-
ment.
New during the Athletic Banquet this year was having a presentation by Wayne State football
coach Dan McLaughlin. His main message was how most kids want to win but not as many
put in the work and effort to do so. During his speech he challenged the student athletes to
put in the work and the effort to win.
The Booster Club's Outstanding Female Athlete award goes to a female athlete who meets or
surpasses the qualification of applications to studies, dedication, caring, concern, determina-
tion, commitment, patience and fairness. This award went to senior Sara Ballard. The Coach
Larry Becker Oustanding Athlete Award goes to a male athlete who meets or surpasses the
above mentioned qualities. The award winner was senior Tyler Bergman. The Wendy's High
School Heisman ominee's were juniors Jus tin Johnson and Allison Leimer.
During the Honors Night presentation many students were recognized for great accomplish-
ments this year. Other students won lifetime achievement awards. The Board of Governors
Community Service Award went to senior Ashley Janecek. One of the highest awards a
student can achieve are Presidential Education Awards. Senior Luke Bryan earned the Presi-
dential Educational Excellence Award. Three seniors won the Presidential Educational
Achievement Award. They were Heather Barris, Eric Scheer and Cindy Woodbury. This was
a great year for accomplishments in the school.
