RAIDER FOOTBALL HAS A

        SUCCESSFUL SEASONI

'The Mead Raiders had a very successful sea-
;on in 1986 because of a total team effort'',
1ead coach Jon Dahl said. The Raiders were
,1oung and proved themselves with an explo-
sive offense and a preventive defense. The
Raiders proved this during their 7-0 season with
a good start in a 48-22 win against Falls City Sa-
cred Heart. Following this with a 45-0 devasta-
tion of Nebraska City Lourdes, people started
to believe in the Raiders. Winning the next four
     games against Friend, Winnebago, Scribner,
and Waterloo, made believers of almost every-
one. Now the Raiders would meet the Cedar
Robbie Pelster scampers around end for a yard gain.
Bluffs Wildcats and possibly earn a place in the
playoffs. The raiders were successful with a
hungry team wanting the playoffs. They proved
themselves once again with a 20- 12 victory to
put them on the road to the playoffs. The Raid-
ers started off their three game playoff spree
with the Brownell-Talbot Raiders of Omaha. The
papers didn't all agree on who the favorite was
to win the game, this shows how evenly mat-
ched the two teams were. The game was tight,
but the Red Raiders won with a score of 45-32.
In the second round of the playoffs the Raiders
played the Silverlake Mustangs. This was a long
bus ride to Bladen so the Raiders didn't plan on
a losing game. When the Raiders came out of
the locker room the Sliverlake team and crowd
was laughing at them but they weren't laughing
after the game. Final score: Raiders-38, Mus-
tangs-22. The next opponent was # 1 rated
Bancroft-Rosalie Panthers. The final score was
22 to 8. This ended the Raiders season.
