Two school records, one to state, and a very successful second half of season
led the Lady Raiders tn a total of 10 letter winners. The season began with two
indoor meets. The scoring was low and the practices tough, so by the end of the
season the Lady Raiders began scoring 30 tn 40 points each meet.
At the David City triangular, Jodie Asper broke the school record in the shot
put with a throw of 372'. Jodie also broke the school record in the discus at the
Conference meet with a throw of 102' :r. Then at Districts, she qualified for state
where she had the lOth place throw.
Angie Lamprecht was very successful in scoring in the long jump, 100m dash,
and 200m dash. Melinda Thompson took charge in the middle distance running
the 2-mile relay, 300m hurdles, 400 m relay, 400 m dash, and sometimes the 100
m hurdles. Catrina Parkins recovered from a hip injury in time to place 3rd in
the mile and 2-mile runs at Districts. All three of these girls should do extremely
well next year.
Other team members, who are equally as important, include: Amy Hslbmaier,
Heidi Gehrman, Marcia Gustafson, Julie Jonas, Jenny Schliffke, and Stacy PicĀ·
kworth. All team members were in at least one individual event and m811y were
in the relays. At the Yutan Relays, the Lady Raiders placed 4th over all, and the
2-mile relay was among the many Mead events placing at Districts. The relay was
third.
After the season, Coach Jerry Buck and the team celebrated their success
at the Wahoo Pizza Hut.
