Winning remains high for the Raiders football team and
Coaches as the Raiders completed a 9-2 season. The season
started off a little rocky by beating Howells 27-20. By the
third game Mead started playing to full potential as they beat
a tough Leigh football team 40·13. The next was Homecom-
Ing against rival Browneii·Talbot. The Raiders easily won 55
       14. The Raiders won their next two games as they beat Wa
terloo 46-0 and Dodge 42-20. Meads next game was against
undefeated East Butler who handed the Raiders a 50-20 loss
but the Raiders bounced back by beating Cedar Bluffs 47-
       0. The next week was a very Important game against Mal-
colm; on the line was the conference championship, and a
sure spot in the State playoffs. It was a tough game but the
Raiders held off the Clippers to come home with a 38-22
victory, plus a conference championship, and a 8-1 regular
season finish. Next to come for the Mead football team was
the state playoffs First round for the Raiders was Johnson·
Brock. Mead easily defeated the Eagles 54-22. Second
round for Mead was the East Butler Tigers who defeated
Mead midway through the season 50-22. The game was to
be played on the Tigers home field The Raiders were ready
for the Tigers this time and It showed as the whole game
was tough, exciting, and was not decided until the finally sec-
onds. With 1:23 left In the 4th period Matt Mongan hit Cort-
ney Couch for a 32 yard half back TO pass to put Mead
ahead 30.26. East Butler hit a long pass that sparked a drive
that put the Tiger on Meads 8 yard lire. With :23 left East
Butler scored a TD and a 2pt conversion to put them ahead
       34-30 over Mead.
Coach Jon Dahl feels the Raiders had a very successful,
surprising and enjoyable season. Surprising because of the
loss of talent from the year before and successful because
of a hard working, over-achieving group of athletes. Meads
only let downs of a great season were the two losses to the
State Champions East Butler. Allen Maly, Jason Maly, and Barry Mayfield, pose for all area recognition for the Wa-
Mead success came because they outscored opponents hoo Newspaper.
