Making Tracks
The 1 996 Mead Track team made it
through another windy and rainy season. Fif-
teen guys and five girls competed in ten
meets. All team members contributed to the
success of this year's team as individuals and
in relays.
Coach Craig Schnitzler said, "I think that
the most significant improvement was made
by Dan Bontrager in the 1 00 meter dash and
Eddie Couch in the triple jump. Eddie has
improved his jump three feet."
Even though the girls had a small team
they had a lot of success.
"I felt that with only five girls we were con-
stantly improving, especially the 3200 meter
relay team and Jacki Dahl who competed in
both shot put and discus," said girls coach
Lauri DeMarque.
At the District Meet everyone performed
well as many personal records were set as
well as a new school record in the boys 400
meter relay with a time 45. 6 seconds, which
beat the previous record set by J. Maly, C.
Nadgwid<, A. Maly and M. Svoboda in 1990
by two tenths of a second.
The 400 meter relay team was first overall
and competed in the state track meet. Also
competing in the state meet was Troy
Kadavy in the 1 1 0 meter high hurdles and
Eddie Couch in the triple jump .
.&MAN, ARE WE TOUGH OR WHAT? Ronnie Novak, E.ddie Couch, Matt Ras-
mussen, coaches Schnitzler and Dahl and Nick Thorson impress the girls.
~I KNOW I CAN FLY; I'VE JUST GOT TO BELIEVE! E.ddie tears up the runway in
the triple jump.
Far left: I HOPE THIS
GOES FAR. Jacki Dahl
launches the shot and
hopes for the best.
Left: UP, UP AND
AWAY. Lindsay Robert-
son clears the bar with
room to spare.
