r studied the sport they would find something truly unique and special. The
There i more to track than what the conunon eye sees. If a person
sport is co-ed and more individually oriented than others, crearing an
a atmosphere that attracts many tudents to compete in it.
Most other high school sports require all team members to tay for the
c full practice. Track is more flexible for the individual athlete. The athletes
have a set amount of objccti vcs to get done during practice; once these are
done they are free to go home. For example, Brian Murray, a jumper, doesn't
have to wait around for anyone else to get done with their workout. Once he
k has warmed up and stretched, he typically works on either his jumping form
or does his speed workout.
& Track also allows individual to stay fit for sports coming up the next
year.
"I just want to stay in shape for football and basketball," said freshman
f Jeffrey Owatal. Many athletes on this year's team stated the exact same thing.
• Even though they like track, it also serves as a good way to get some year end
1 conditioning in to prepare for the sports to come in a couple of months.
Other people just find their niche in track. Maybe they like to run or
throw. The competitiveness is definitely a ru h, and many people love the
e thought of individually being the best at what they do.
"I sprint because I'm fast and I throw because I'm strong," said junior
1 Tyler Carlson.
The more co-ed atmosphere attracts many students to compete. Although
the events themselves aren't co-ed, track is the only port which allows guys
and girls to compete the same day, and during the same time frame. It gives
d the couples a time to hang out, and the singles some time to "check" out.
