Matt Shonsey is a 1967 graduate of Clarks High School.
Matt played Quarterback on the 1966 Clarks Bomber football team that went undefeated and won the Class D State Championship.
He was named first team All-State in football and basketball in 1966 and 1967. He played one year at Doane College before
graduating from Kearney State College in 1971. He served 2 years overseas in the Army from 1971-1973. Matt attended graduate
school at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and graduated in 1974, and trained at IRS tax schools in Chicago, Cincinnati and
Minneapolis from 1974 to 1977.
Matt established his Certified Public Accounting practice in Grand Island in 1977. He became corporate shareholder in 1980 and
elected managing partner in 1987. By 2004 Shonsey & Associates, CPA’s had just under 50 employees and was one of the largest
single office CPA firms in the state. Matt continues to work and run the CPA practice today.
Matt is a former member of the Board of the Directors of Grand Island Community Foundation, St. Francis Medical Center
Foundations, College Park of Grand Island, Grand Island Economic Development corporation, Stuhr Museum Foundation, and
Community Health Charities. He has also chaired the NSAA State Volleyball Fundraising Committee and he and his wife Kathy have
co-chaired the Heartland United Way Campaign.
Matt is a member of the American Institute of Certified Accountants and the Nebraska Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Matt and his Kathy have two daughters, Erin and Erica.
